Abstract

The wheels are mounted on half axles (3) with grooves (5) to locate the drive transmitting balls (7). A sleeve (14) surrounds the ends of the half axles, and is attached to the drive input gear (1). Sliding collars (18) are mounted on the outside of the sleeve, and I rotate with it. A radial face of the collar has a number of depressions cut in its periphery, these depressions forming sloping ramps (54). A pivoted insert (38) is moved by a cable and lever and is held against the outer diameter of the collar until a depression passes beneath it. The insert then moves into the depression and further rotation causes it to be pressed against the casing. This slides the collar over the sleeve, permitting the drive balls to disengage from the grooves.
