Abstract

The automatic feeder allows birds to feed at any time and vermin cannot reach the feed. The body (1) has a floor sloping downwards to the front (6, 9) which has openings for a bird's head and neck. An inside partition (4', 57, 58) and lid (11) gives storage space for the food, available through a hole in the partition base (57, 58). A door (30) hinged at the top, normally closes the front openings, but opens when a bird steps onto a hinged footboard (22). Its weight depresses this footboard and a connecting link (53, 55, 56) pushes the door upwards. The bird can then feed. The door closes when the bird steps off.
