Abstract
A CRT display of ultrasonic pulses from a sample undergoing non-destructive tests, also incorporates a digital propagation velocity meter. These are devised to enable pulse time delay to be measured precisely. The ultrasonic generator has a master pulse clock which also triggers a sweep delay, a brightness delay, and a null control circuit arranged in sequence. The clock also starts a timing pulse which is stopped at the end of the total delay caused by these three circuits. A coincidence detector compares the trailing edge of this pulse with the centre of the received echo pulse. At the same time an identification bright-up spot appears coincident with the echo on the CRT screen.
