Abstract

A prefabricated concrete sandwich slab of lighter weight than conventional concrete slabs, and of equal strength, consists of an upper layer (21) and a lower layer (3) of normal concrete, enclosing between them a layer (4) of light weight concrete. During casting, the bottom layer is first deposited in the mould, then the lightweight layer is placed on the wet bottom layer, then the top layer added. Metal reinforcement can then be introduced into one or both outer layers. This method ensures good bonding between the layers. Due to the saving a weight, larger floor areas can be supported. Improved heat and sound insulation is obtained.
