Abstract

The design of the electro-chemical cell or battery is based on the digestion of a metal such as zinc, aluminium, or magnesium by an electrolyte producing the metal hydroxide, electrical power and heat. The one or more cells, each having a metal anode and a cathode with oxygen or oxygenated water depolarisation, have an electrolyte pumping system. The control of power developed is achieved by adjusting the electrolyte level, and controlling its temperature to a precalculated optimum condition, this optimum being maintained by feedback loop. To minimise ohmic losses the preferred cathode material is platinum impregnated with PTEE and the electrolyte an aqueous solution containing 20% to 30% potassium.
