Abstract

Cutting machine for carrots, or other vegetables of a similar shape, comprises a frame with a base carrying uprights which support a conveyor belt. This consists of two parallel chains with link attachments which receive and hold the vegetables to be treated. These are introduced into the rotating drum; blades lift the carrots and they fall on the conveyor passing through the drum. Some come to rest on the attachments; they pass under rotary brushes and meet a current of water from the pump. The carrots, now properly aligned, are cut into sections by the saw; ends not previously cut are dealt with a cutting post. Machine works automatically and gives a high yield; it is esp. suitable for the considerable quantities required in the food ind.
