Abstract

Herbicidal compsns. contain 0.5-95 wt. % of one or more 2-acylthiophenes of formula (I): (where X is H, halogen or lower alkyl; R is benzyl, R1, R2-substd. phenyl or R3-substd. thienyl; R1 is H, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R 2 is H or lower alkyl; R3 is lower alkyl). The compsns. are esp. useful for the selective control of grassy and broad-leafed weeds in rice fields; they are practically harmless to rice seedlings and newly planted rice plants.
