Abstract
An aq. mixt. of a water-soluble acrylic resin and a latex in the ratio 4.5-0.7:1, pref. 1.3:1 is used as a binder for coating plastic substrates in the prepn. of magnetic tapes. The compsn. can tolerate a high filler content e.g., by ball milling and its adhesion to e.g., cellulose acetate or polyester is as good as obtg. with binders based on org. solvent systems. The latex is pref. a polyvinylidene chloride, a suitable copolymer contg. 80-90% polyvinylidene chloride and 10-25% acrylic monomers.
