Abstract

An appts. for deep drawing thermoplastics containers from a sheet and simultaneously applying a strip, e.g. for strengthening or decorative purposes, around the container body, comprises a feed mechanism for a relatively wide thermoplastics sheet, one or more rows of moulds extending transversely across the path of the sheet, plungers which partly penetrate into the moulds and preform the containers, and a feed mechanism for introducing into each mould a length of the strip, so that the deep drawing pressure applies the vessel wall internally against this strip, the entire container being thus formed and sealed by the pressurising fluid. The strip is wound around a revolving mandrel, coaxial with each mould, the free end of the mandrel forming the end of the mould during the actual moulding process. The mandrel and mould are axially movable one relative to the other, the mandrel pref. being stationary and the mould moving, so that after the strip has been wound around the mandrel the axial movement introduces it into the mould where it is ready for the next deep drawn vessel to be applied internally to it. A rapid and automatic method of producing deep drawn beakers and the like having decorative or strengthening strips, e.g. of plastics, cardboard or the like around the cylindrical or conical wall.
