Abstract

A heat treatment appts. for sensitive substances using microwaves, comprises a feed chamber and discharge chamber, also a first generating means for the microwaves, e.g. a number of magnetrons which supply the microwaves to a limited and defined treatment chamber, also a second means for subjecting the substances to the microwaves, esp. a vessel which is sub-divided by a horizontal grating or the like into an upper treatment chamber and a lower after treatment chamber; both this vessel and its grating are of microwave-permeable material, e.g. polypropylene. The microwave energy liquefies the substances in the treatment chamber. Esp. for treating highly sensitive substances, e.g. photographic emulsions. The substances treated can be completely isolated from contact with the atmos. esp. by a cover or with any of the heating equipment.
