Abstract

Press tool where one face of a shallow cavity comprises a flexible diaphragm backed by an annular recess for radial flow of a heat transfer fluid supplied alternately at high and low temps via a parallel recess distributing the fluid from a central chamber to the periphery of the annular recess, where the secondary recess is backed by a section of tool wall of cellular structure with an impermeable cover. Esp. for moulding replicate thermoplastic discs of e.g. a video recording signal profile on the exposed face of the diaphragm. The cellular structure reduces the heat capacity of the tool body adjacent to the fluid passages, thus allowing a more rapid temp. swing between hot and cold flows to the tool face.
