Abstract

The manhole cover with an anti-skid surface, typically of cast iron and for use in carriageway surfaces, incorporates regularly spaced and distributed projections on the exposed surface, these projections taking the form of truncated pyramids. The height (H) of each projection is half the base width (AB). The angle (ALPHA) between the base and inclined faces is 60 deg. and rows of projections are arranged parallel to cover diagonals, i.e. at 45 deg. to the sides of square covers. The height (H) is typically 5 mm and the space (BC) between adjacent projections in the same row is 2 mm or half the top width (DE).
