Abstract
The three-phase transformer has a primary winding in either star or delta format. One form of secondary has three windings, with teh centre points connected together. The ends of the windings are connected to the mid-points of series pairs of diodes or thyristors. By addition, the DC component of the output is a function of the peak amplitudes of one resultant and of the other resultant from the phase additions. The ripple content is of the order of 1.7%. Alternative windings may take the form of two primaries, one in star and one in delta, and other multiple secondary windings. This arrangement avoids the need for harmonic filters and reduces the requirement for stop-coils.
