Abstract

Insulating oils comprise a mixt. of (A) a mineral oil obtd. by hydrofining a petroleum lubricating oil fraction and (b) an (R)n-substd. naphthalene (where R is 1-4C alkyl; n=1-4; the total no. of C atoms in the alkyl gps. is >=3; and R can be the same or different when n >=2). The oils have good oxidn. resistance and excellent gas absorption properties (i.e. they absorb H2 in an electric field). The mixt. pref. contains 5-45 vol.% alkylnaphthalene, opt. in the form of an isomer mixt. or a mixt. of different alkylnaphthalenes. The prefd. alkylnaphthalenes are those with 1-4 propyl gps.
