Abstract

Biological treatment to purify polluted effluent is effected by a mechanical aerator which comprises a horizontal rotary shaft carrying spaced radially-extending discs each fitted on both faces with beater paddles, the shaft being directly coupled to be driven from a motor gearbox and the complete assembly being suspended from a bridge frame spanning a channel through which effluent is driven by the beater blades as the shaft rotates. The blades are pref. of stainless steel and each is formed with two wings at right angles. The blades are individually removable and should be set in staggered, helical formation. The device may be used for the mechanical aeration of waste water to promote biological purification.
