Abstract

The expansion-piece (1) consists of a web (2) and two side arms (3) and symmetrically positioned plates (4) between a central piece (5) and the side arm (3). The central piece (5) has a threaded hole (6) in it for a screw (7) which expands the piece. The screw (7) passes through a hole in the hand rail (8), then the web (2) of the expansion-piece through a guide hole (9). Each of the side arms (3) of the expansion piece has a chamfer, facilitating its entry into the top of the hollow square cross-section bar (12). The side arms (3) taper slightly outwards and have ridges on their outer surfaces. The web (2) has a slightly convex top. The plates form a V whose angle is varied by the screw.
