Abstract
The mechanical strengthe of paper sheet is increased by applying a conventional adhesive (pref. using a printing technique- e.g. silk screen) to one surface of the sheet in a grid pattern. Pref. the lines forming the grid are 0.5-2mm thick and are separated by 3-10 mm. The lines forming the grid may extend at right angles to each other or not and may be sinusoidal. The dives may be aqueous polyvinyl alcohol, or a natural or synthetic rubber in a solvent. The paper is cheap to produce and has the mechanical strength of heavier and more expensive papers.
