Abstract

The circuit is partic. applicable to high current equipment where high rates of change of current in the load are required. The anode and gate connections of the power thyristors are connected to the anode and cathode of the pilot thyristor whose gate and cathode are connected to an external firing circuit. Thus the load on the pilot thyristor is the combined gate load of the power thyristors and the associated balancing resistors. By this connection the rate of change of main gate current and main forward current are inter-related permitting high rates of change. On a circuit giving 2000A output a di/dt for the load current of 2000A/microsecond is suggested as possible.
