Abstract
Al monofluoride and Mg vapours are condensed in a vessel having a wall of graphite, silicon carbide or Ti carbide the outer surface of which is cooled. Sufficiently that a solidified layer of Mg fluoride is maintained on the inner surface, pref. to a thickness of 0.5 to 1000 mm. The wall material should be wetted preferentially by the fluoride rather than by Al.
