Abstract

The transformer is fitted with a 185 volt (3) and a 230 volt (4) tapping the connection of which is determined by relay contacts (5b, 5c) in series with the supply. The position of this switch controls the level of supply to the heater which has two resistances (1, 7) in series, the voltage at the resistance junction operating the relay via a thyristor (6) circuit. If the current through the resistance (1) is too high the protection resistance (7) which has a positive temperature coefficient of resistance, arms and increases in resistance to triggers the thyristor (6) and the relay (5). The thyristor circuit has a rectifier formed by a dide (10) and capacitor in parallel with a resistance (12).
