Abstract

The device for taking a sample of molten metal e.g. iron and steel from a bath with the best possible chance of avoiding sec. oxidn., consists of a two-part mould with a hole connected to a funnel which can be filled by a hand ladle. The two parts of the mould are made of sheet metal and are held together by >=1 sleeve which also connects the mould to the funnel. The funnel may be made of sheet metal or in dehydrated cardboard covered with a refractory lining, and it may consist of two halves. Each half of the mould may be made in one piece with the corresponding half of the funnel. A filling tube fitted with a refractory sleeve may be provided between the funnel and the mould. The device is simple and inexpensive.
