Abstract

The therapeutic bicycle on adjustable length lever arms has pedals (13). The axle (30) carries a gear wheel (1) which drives a dynamo (11) by means of a chain to another gear wheel (2), a pulley (12) and a belt (4). Tension of the belt (4) is maintained by the weight of the dynamo (11), hinged about a pin (6). The various devices are mounted on a light alloy base (3) fixed onto a steel tube frame with a tube (9) for the saddle. The dynamo (11) generates an electric current which flows through an electric resistance. The heat dissipated by the resistance gives a measure of the effort exerted by the feet of the patient onto the pedals (13). A regular check of the progress of the patient can be made by this bicycle.
