Abstract

Remote battery charging system is used where direct connection between the supply and battery is not possible as in the case of heart pacemakers. The battery positioned under the patients skin, is of a rechargeable type. The pacemaker or stimulating package contains a full-wave bridge rectifier and the secondary winding of a transformer as well as the stimulator unit and the battery. The primary is a similar winding which is placed close to the patient so as to induce ac currents in the secondary embedded in the patient, when it is connected to an ac supply.
