Abstract

Ternary copolyamides suitable for hot melt adhesives are prepd. by polymerising anhydrous caprolactam, laurolactam and C-methylcaprolactam without pressure at 130-270 degrees C., pref. 140-160 degrees C. Polymerisation is pref. effected in an extruder using 20-80 (wt.) % caprolactam, 5-70% laurolactam and 5-60% gamma-C-methylcaprolactam in the presence of a basic catalyst and a co-catalyst. The copolyamides are used as adhesives for textiles, metals, paper and for coating synthetic leather and paper.
