Abstract

Indoles are prepd. by dehydrogenation of the corresp. indolines, the reaction being catalysed by a transition metal and an organometallic reducing agent on a carrier. Reaction is pref. in the vapour phase at 300-600 degrees C, the indoline being introduced in H2 or an inert gas. Reaction pressure is pref. 10 bars. Yields of >90% and selectivity of >90% are obtd. Prefd. catalysts are Fe, Co, Ni; prefd. reducing agents are trialkyl-aluminium cpds. e.g., AlEt3.
