Abstract

Gas filter comprises a vertical cylindrical pressure vessel with a removable top and a horizontal partition dividing the vessel into upper and lower chambers; the partition supports vertical, tubular, renewable filter elements in the upper chamber with each element outlet coinciding with a perforation in the partition and a mesh strainer to protect the elements from incoming gas to be filtered. The gas inlet is positioned, horizontally in the lower chamber and the incoming gas stream is diverted upwards through 90 degrees, via a bend, to pass along the axis of a vertical tubular strainer topped by a deadend dome, directly opposite a scale-purging trap leading down from the bend to external outlet. It is used for filtering gases, esp. oxygen at pressures =40-60 bars requiring 100% removal of 80 u particles for a supply to ind. measuring equipment such as rotary counters with rotor/stator clearances of ca 100 mu. Thus the incoming gas stream does not impinge directly on the protective strainer, which can be of light construction, and does not have to be removed to change elements. No turbulence of entrained particles eliminates heating and explosion risk.
