Abstract

The compact gas generator has a flat cylindrical housing with a pyrolytic gas charge in the centre, fired by aneelectric detonator. The pyrolytic gas pushes a piston upwards and forces a plunger through a weakened wall section in the housing. The pyrolytic gas escapes into the surrounding gas container by lateral bores exposed by the piston and mixes with the compressed gas. The mixture passes through further lateral bores into the space above the piston and out through the break in the wall. A radial distributor is fitted to the top of the housing with filter plugs to arrest any particles. The system provides an efficient mixing system for the gases to dilute the pyrolytic fumes and provide a cooler mixture.
