Abstract

In an appts. for determining the degree of pollution of a fluid by an impurity modifying its dielectric constant e.g. oil used in a machine tool, of the known type consisting of a measuring condenser and a reference condenser to be mounted in two arms of a measuring bridge, the structures of the two condensers are geometrically identical and both are immersed simultaneously in the fluid in such a way as to be subjected to the same temp. variations, the reference condenser uses the same but unpolluted fluid. Appts. prevents erroneous results being obtained due to e.g. expansion, specific changes in the characteristics of the oil due to temp. etc. which alter the dielectric constant.
