Abstract
Oxidn. catalysts for promoting quantitative combustion contain Ag vanadate. The catalysts can be used for elementary analysis (C,H,N) for the quantitative combustion of biological material etc. contg. radioactive isotopes such as 14C and 3H, and for conversion of CO into CO2 in exhaust gases (esp. from automobile IC engines). The AgVO3 can be prepd. by reacting NH4 metavanadate with AgNO3, dissolving the salt obtd. in an alkaline medium and pptg. the prod. with acetic acid. The catalysts are pref. prepd. by adding the AgVO3 in an amt. of ca 20 wt.% of a molten alumina cement, mixing with H2O and calcining. The catalysts can also contain activators e.g. oxides of Mn or W or salts of Cu or Mg.
