Abstract
The system is applied to typewriters, teleprints, lino-types and computer print out. One sign is used for each consonant independently of its position in the word. Two signs grouped in pairs in successive key rows (13) and (16), (14) and (17), and (15) and (18) represent the vowels and are used depending on whether the consonant precedes or follows the vowel or whether or not the shadda which also has two signs, is linked or not to the following letter. The transliteration of foreign names into Arabic is accomplished by the use of a "mute letter" to modify the pronunciation of a linked consonant.
