Abstract

The bearing (1) consists of a body (3) containing an upper felt oil reservoir (7) retained by a spring (5) and circlip (6), and a lower felt disc (8). The two felt discs are connected by felt strips (10b) passing through slots in the bearing body. Oil from the upper disc passes through a porous bronze ball (4) to the shaft (2) and seeps downward. A circular centrifuging disc (11) collects the oil and throws it outwards and downwards from its turned down edge on to the lower disc. The oil then soaks back upwards to the reservoir by capillary action. The upper disc is thus prevented from drying out.
