Abstract

Tyre construction incorporates extra reinforcing gaiters alongside the carcass reinforcing plies both being doubled back around the bead reinforcing hoops, the free edges of both the carcass plies and the adjacent gaiters turned back again towards the rim of the tyre. Doubling back of the free edges avoids propagation of delamination radially up the side wall due to oscillation of the edge as the tyre flexes with the rolling progression of the compressed zone in contact with the road.
