Abstract

Mould tool is fitted with a hopper pivotted from the top of one edge of the mould to allow for an independently pivotted mould cover, the hopper incorporating a discharge outlet with an internal cover or gate profiled and pivotted to permit its displacement over an adjacent zone of the interior wall of the hopper so as to release the hopper contents through the outlet. The appts. is suitable for converting pre-expanded polystyrene beads into massive mouldings. Gate pattern is simpler for construction and adjustment for alignment with the outlet than reciprocating plug or mushroom valves and it cannot foul the mouth of the mould during movement of the hopper. The gate clears the outlet completely, allowing a full bore discharge which can reduce mould loading cycles by two thirds.
