Abstract

Mfr. of a long reactive metal product, e.g. a tube rod, or wire. in which a layer of ductile material which when heated forms a non-eutectic compsn. whose m. pt. is greater than the extension temp. of the bloom or billet of reactive material on which it is electrolytically deposited. The coated bloom or billet is heated to a temp. at which a diffusion joint at the interface sepg. the bloom or billet from the ductile metal, and the bloom or billet is extruded to form a product which is cold worked to give the long product. Overcomes the tendency of reactive metal products to erode and grip the tools.
