Abstract

The rotating thrust face on the rudder stem can have a cylindrical cavity, inside which the top of the fixed body fits, and a sealing joint can be incorporated to the latter, in an annular recess. Where the body includes a packing, the throat containing the sealing joint can be open at the bottom, the packing also fitting in this throat, into which it is thrust upwards so as to press against the joint, typically by thrusters screwing into the body, and having heads fitting in recesses in the packing. The thrust face can bear against the body via a wearing ring.
