Abstract
Propellant blocks, for lateral combustion are partic. intended for rocket propulsion. The block is cylindrical and has a lateral notch parallel to the axis of the block and symmetrical to a diametrical plane of the block; the notch is connected to the external surface by two symmetrical flats. The block has a relative combustion thickness of e/R (in which R is the radius of the block and e the combustion thickness) which can vary between 0.5 and 1.55. The flats lead to a practically constant rate of combustion with a low residual figure, e.g. the amt. of the unburnt portion when the press. is no longer sufficient for normal operation. The blocks can easily be obtd. by moulding a base mixt. of polyurethane resin, potassium perchlorate and ballistic additives. The combustion surface remains constant so that a constant thrust is obtd. throughout the trajectory.
