Abstract

The hose pipe is formed from a strip of rubber with a number of longitudinal ribs running along each of its edges but on opposite surfaces. The ribs are so shaped that when the strip is bent into a circular form the two sets of ribs mate with each other forming water-tight seal. The strip is wound in its flat condition onto a drum on a travelling water spraying trolley. The free end of the strip is formed into a tube and attached to a hydrant. A pump on the trolley connects into the flexible hose and pumps water to the spray jets. As the machine travels it pulls a loop along the flexible pipe forcing it into circular form.
