Abstract

A reinforcing ring for the bead of a pneumatic tyre is built up by winding several layers of an elastomeric coated filament into an annular groove defined in the periphery of a pair of discs held side-by-side. When sufficient windings of the filament have been effected to fill the groove the discs are sepd. to allow removal of the finished reinforcing ring from the groove. The cross-section of the groove in such that the inner surface of the finished reinforcing ring is curved so that it doesn't damage reinforcing plies of the tyre casing which are eventually wrapped around it. A uniform reinforcing ring can be produced cheaply.
