Abstract

The invention consists of a concrete unit (2) which is laid on the sea bed below the water line. The unit comprises a flat part with a lip (3) at the seaward end, together with a tongue (4) which is embedded in the sea bed and assists the unit to resist the suction of the undertow. The unit tends to break the force of the wave breaking over it and causes the sand being carried to be dropped against its end (6) and against the lip. This deposition of sand reduces the angle of the beach. The units interlock with one another side by side.
