Abstract

Organic matter is recovered from waste water from pulp mills by means of a layer of a powder resin in a column The resin is eluted after being satd. by coloured substances, pref. using the method used in centralising the colour of waste water from pulp bleacheries. The resin is activated by an acid soln. whereafter waste water having a higher pH-value than liq. phase of the activated resin and pref. on the alkaline side, is passed through the layer of activated resin. This results in change of the volume of the resin due to pH-value change being counteracted by adding the acid soln. batch-wise while treating the waste water. The addn. should take place in that part of the cycle which is between the activation stage and the elution and in such a way that the pH-value of the resin layer is lowered several times during the treatment of the waste water.
