Abstract

Heat shrinkable caps are placed over the tops of bottles which then pass through a tunnel where a current of hot air is circulated past the caps. The tunnel should have hollow walls with one or more jets directed down on to the crown of the cap and with orifices in the sidewalls approx. level with the base of the cap to collect and recirculate the air flow. The tunnel casing may incorporate the necessary blower(s) and heater(s). The enveloping air flow promotes more uniform heating and shrinkages of the caps than use of static radiant heaters and is less sensitive to variations in the size and height of the bottles and their caps. Recirculating system is thermally efficient.
