Abstract

Two longitudinal braking beams are placed one on each side of a rail. These are fitted to arms ending in a common pivot below the rail. These arms can move vertically and are lifted simultaneously. In the raised position, the beams grip opposed sides of the rail vehicle wheel. The lifting power is produced by jacks, articulated to the pivoted arms so as to give equal motion on either side. The beams are fitted with grooved brake shoes, the upper part of which engages with the wheel. The beam pivoting point is housed in a slot, allowing the pivot itself to lift to a limited amount. The arms have slots whose upper faces engage the lower face of the rail support when the arms are raised, thus limiting vertical movement of the rails.
