Abstract

Control valve to maintain essentially constant gas flow rates, within a given range of upstream and downstream pressures. The valve consists of a passage of varying circular cross-section, formed by cylindrical and conical sections, and an axially moving disc which progressively blocks the passage. The disc is mounted on a central shaft which is pivoted on a transverse strip. The transverse strip is itself pivoted round an axis essentially tangential to the flow passage. The effect of dynamic gas pressure on the disc tends to close the passageway, and this is resisted by a balancing spring acting on the pivoting strip. The balance of these forces gives essentially contrast flow through the valve.
