Abstract
Natural fibres e.g. wool are cleaned of impurities e.g sand straw by being passed in a liquid, pref. water, flow between pref. several pairs of electrodes arranged pref in side recesses of a flow duct and between which potential (e.g. 20-70 K.V) is applied to generate the hydraulic shock waves. The recesses in the flow duct ensure mixing of the fibres but this may be achieved with vanes. The electrodes may also be moved with the flow. Pref. the flow duct is perforated at spaced positions to allow the removal of impurities. Because the fibres pass directly between the electrodes more efficient cleaning is achieved with reduced power consumption.
