Abstract
The multiple cores of a cable are joined electrically to the cores of another cable. Over the joint a plastics sheath is wrapped or preferably a plastics tube with a slide fastening is closed to clamp a sheath formed by two sheets welded-together along a line. This inner sheath is sealed to the cable cover at the ends. A larger and thicker cigar shaped sheath is slid over the joint from its position on one cable, and is sealed to the cable at each end by spongy discs (23). A plastics clasp (30, 31) is closed to shorten the circumference. Chemicals and a catalyst are inserted into the inner space via a nozzle (27), and foaming takes place with some expansion filling the space with insulating protective material which becomes hard after curing.
