Abstract

Moulding machine is of the type in which material is transferred from pressure chamber via scots in an extrusion plate into mould cavities aligned with the scots and formed into a mould block which can be displaced clear of the pressure chamber so that moulded portions can be ejected from the cavities. The mould block is divided transversely of the cavities into sections which can slide relatively to each other to shear through moulded portions to form cut portions of non-rectangular shape. Used in the mfr. of frozen food prods., partic. fish fingers and cod portions. The prod. can be made to a non-rectangular shape without the problems which normally arise when frozen food is forced directly into moulds to give a non-rectangular shape, i.e. distortion and fragmentation because of high mould pressures and uneven stress distribution.
