Abstract

Wax candle having a wick incorporating two electrical conductor threads, e.g. of carbon, graphite or metal, which are insulated from each other, the wick having been treated in a chemical solution, which pref. ensures that the wick material is enriched with an addition of at least 1% of boric ions, so that carbonisation of the projecting end of the wick produces a granular bridge which is electrically semi-conductive between the conductors and which ignites when an adequate voltage supply, e.g. above 24 volts, is connected to the threads. Electric current supply to the candle is pref. intermittent via an induction coil in series with automatic make and break contacts; alternatively, a battery supply may be used via a condenser. Electric ignition of wax candles. For novelty and decorative purposes, e.g. for christmas trees.
