Abstract
Phthalocyanine pigments with very soft texture, excellent colour value and improved light fastness are obtd. by grinding crude pigment in media contg. at least 60% by wt. of water, and a water immiscible org. solvent. (b.p. 150 degrees) pref. an aliphatic petroleum hydrocarbon fraction b.p. 60-85 degrees. Other cpds. pref. present in the medium are a surfactant (anionic, 2-7% on pigment), an oxidising agent (1-6%., e.g. Na2Cro4) and an alkaline salt (2-10%, e.g. Na3PO4). The solvent is pref. 15-30% wt. on pigment, and ratio medium: pigment is >=300 (pref. 350-600) : 100. Process avoids the use of large amts. of conc. H2SO4 or org. solvents.
