Abstract

Automatic treatment of well diagraphy data by (a) producing a number of diagraphy measurements of a well representative of the formations traversed by the borehole; (b) combining the measurements in order to obtain parameters (I, II) related to the resistivity of the water and porosity of the formation; (c) combining (I) and (II) to obtain an output parameter which is a function of the porosity of the formation and the ratio of the resistivity of the water to that of the formation, the parameter being, more especially, a function of log(Rw/Rt) where Rw = resistivity of the fossil water and Rt = resistivity of the formation. This enables the evaluation of the hydrocarbon content of a formation from the water saturation (Sw) and the porosity (Circle with diagonal line) which are empirically related to the measured values by the equations F = a/circle with diagonal line m and Smw = F. Rw/Rt, to be determined more accurately by establishing their relationships for the coefficient (a) of the formation factor (F). The 'cementation' factor (m) and the exponent (n) of the water saturation Sw.
