Abstract

The cathode is of tubular construction, the outer cylindrical surface being of aluminium acting as the cathode minimising cathode overheating effects. There is an insulated capillary tube extending beyond the cathode, passing axially through this tube. Annular anodes fit over this capillary tube which is terminated at both ends by semi-reflecting mirrors. Both ends of the tube are closed by aluminium discs supporting the capillary tube and the access point allowing evacuation and filling of the laser. Connection between the main volume of the laser and the capillary tube is by a hole in this tube towards one end.
